The most capped England players of all time

5. Bobby Moore - 108 caps
A true icon of English football, Bobby Moore captained England to their 1966 World Cup triumph, establishing himself as one of the greatest central defenders the world has ever seen. The West Ham United legend was the runner-up in the 1970 Ballon d'Or and is one of the all-time England greats - if not the best the country has ever produced. Alongside Wright, the centre-back boasts the joint record of 90 appearances as England skipper.

4. Steven Gerrard - 114 caps
The Liverpool legend was also an immense figure for England over the years, with Steven Gerrard being one of the all-round great midfielders to have donned the white national team jersey. His time in the England squad wasn't always straightforward, with debates often raging about whether him and Lampard could play alongside one another, but his ability to produce big moments and his leadership qualities made him a vital inclusion for the Three Lions. Ironically, him and Lampard both played their final game for England against Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup.

3. David Beckham - 115 caps
One of England's few global superstars over the years, David Beckham boasted a frightening amount of natural talent. While he had his questionable moments at international level, the number seven jersey became synonymous with his flair and magic. The midfielder was one of the sweetest strikers of a football that England fans have ever had the pleasure of witnessing, and was a stylish character on and off the pitch. 115 appearances for England is an astonishing total, with only two players having registered more.

2. Wayne Rooney - 120 caps
Until Kane burst on to the scene, Rooney was England's top goalscorer, netting 53 times in 120 appearances. The Everton and Man Utd forward epitomised a street footballer, and brought those relentless qualities to the national team setup. He will be disappointed not to have been more influential at major tournaments, but Rooney is still regarded as one of the country's greats of the 21st century. A 15-year international career came to an end against the United States in November 2018.

1. Peter Shilton - 125 caps
Peter Shilton managed a mightily impressive 125 appearances for England, with the goalkeeper having likely played more if it wasn't for the competition provided by Ray Clemence in the 1970s. Shilton had the number one spot all to himself in the 1980s and was in the England goal during the infamous 'Hand of God' moment against Argentina at the 1986 World Cup. The former Nottingham Forest stopper was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
